Holly Palmer / Cuong Vu «After Hours» ft Larry Goldings, David Piltch, and Jake Reed
“After Hours” is an evening of songs presented by vocalist Holly Palmer and two-time Grammy Award winner, trumpet player Cuong Vu in which they will perform songs from their new jazz album of the same name. “After Hours” is concept album, in which they interpret classics from the American Songbook as well as two foreign language gems — one in French and one in Portuguese. The songs take you through the thoughts of a woman over the course of an evening, alone in her apartment with her vinyl collection and a bottle of wine.
Holly Palmer has recorded, toured and collaborated with such illustrious industry icons as David Bowie, D...r. Dre, Sting, Seal, and Michael Bublé — in addition to releasing four well-received albums of her own.
After recording her second critically acclaimed record, Palmer was invited by David Bowie to sing on his album Hours. She was featured on the opening track «Thursday's Child,” proclaimed by Q Magazine as one of the top moments of that year. Palmer spent the next year touring the world with Bowie, appearing on VH-1 Storytellers, as well as two other Bowie albums: Live at the Beeb and Toy.
“A Family Album” is Holly’s upcoming release slated for Fall, 2018. It is an album that focuses on her family life – and the unexpected joy as well as challenges she and her husband have experienced raising their 9 year old son Maceo – who was born with cerebral palsy. Her newest single recording is a song she wrote called “Human” which contains the core message of Holly’s inclusion initiative, written in honor of David Bowie — a force for inclusion throughout his life and art.
Holly's following release will be “After Hours”, a jazz album featuring herself and two-time Grammy Award winner trumpeter Cuong Vu, backed by world-class musicians Larry Goldings, Jay Bellerose and David Piltch. They interpret classics from the American Songbook as well as two foreign language gems — one in French and one in Portuguese. Slated for an early 2019 release, After Hours is a concept album. The songs take us through the thoughts of a woman over the course of an evening, alone in her apartment with a bottle of wine.
Cuong Vu is widely recognized by jazz critics as a leader of a generation of innovative musicians. A truly unique musical voice, Cuong has contributed to a wide range of artists including Pat Metheny, Laurie Anderson, and David Bowie. Since his early years in NYC, Cuong has been active in leading various groups, most notably his trio with bassist Stomu Takeishi and drummer Ted Poor, displaying how he has carved out a distinctive sonic territory on the trumpet while blurring all stylistic borders.
Along with Grammy awards in 2002 and 2006 as a member of the Pat Metheny Group, Cuong received Europe’s Echo Jazz 2017 Awards, International Instrumentalist for his work on his recording, “Cuong Vu Trio Meets Pat Metheny”. Each of his eight albums have garnered critical acclaim having been considered among the top recordings of their respective years. Currently residing in Seattle, Cuong is chair and professor of jazz studies at the University of Washington.
