Despite well-documented flaws and public opposition, the City of Los Angeles is on the verge of accepting $425,000 in funds under the Federal Government’s Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) grant.
We call on Muslim community members and our allies to attend the City of Los Angeles' City Council meeting on Wednesday, January 24th at 10:00 am. We must attend in LARGE numbers to demonstrate that the vast majority of Muslims and our allies in the City of Los Angeles oppose this discriminatory and dangerous program.
Join us in letting your city council members and the City of Los Angeles know that:
— CVE is based on a flawed theory that claims there are reliable «indicators» for predicting if individuals are on a path to radicalization.
— CVE chills First Amendment protected activities such as attending a mosque, participating in activism, and expressing ideological beliefs.
— CVE targets Muslim communities and stigmatizes them as inherently suspect under the false premise that Muslims are more prone to radicalization than other religious or ethnic groups.
There will be an organizational sign-on letter for organizations to show their united opposition to CVE in addition to an individual petition. Stay tuned for links to both documents!
