At 2 pm this Saturday, January 13, we will gather at All Saints Church to celebrate the life of our beloved sister, the Reverend Zelda Kennedy.
We hope you will able to be a part of this gathering of a community that is as expansive as God’s love for the entire human family. We are asking everyone to arrive early so as to have plenty of time to find parking and get a seat — and we are so very grateful to Kaiser Permanente for making their parking structure (at the northeast corner of Euclid & Walnut) available to us for the service. It is likely that we will have to use overflow seating in the Learning Center, so we are making arrangements for that to be as powerful and connected an experience as possible.
As Zelda loved our children, all children are invited to attend the service. I am grateful to our children’s minister, Kelly Phelan, for arranging not only child care for children up to 3rd grade but also a large space in the chapel for children and families to color, build, create and remember Zelda during the service.
Clergy are invited to vest (cassock, surplice, white stole) and processing. Bishops Taylor and Bruce will be helping lead the service, Rector Emeritus Ed Bacon will preach and All Saints vestry member Karen Alexander and longtime friend and colleague of Zelda’s, the Reverend Ida Louise Johnson will offer reflections. Both our youth and adult choirs will offer gifts of music.
Mostly, we will all be together, and the Holy Spirit will show up as she always does. And we will give our sister a sendoff full of as much love as she always gave to us.
Following the service, there will be a reception on the lawn and in Regas House. There will be opportunities to sign remembrance books and share stories. There will be a large photo wall in the Guild Room so please bring pictures of Zelda to add so we can create together a glorious collage of her life with all of us.
Please come – and if you cannot be with us in person, join us via live stream. Finally, please do continue to keep Zelda’s family and friends and the entire All Saints community in your prayers.
