A movement, a moment—a fleeting phrase to remind you of where you began and who you’ve become. On September 14, 2017 we invite you to an intimate exhibition of song, dance, and narrative crafted by Naked Narratives with Sokamba Performing Arts Company and inspired by Elizabeth Montagu. The founder of an early women's writing salon, Montagu’s Bluestockings Society paved the way for female poets and authors alike. Since 2014, Naked Narratives has continued in Montagu’s tradition by hosting feminist coteries across the globe, using storytelling to uplift and empower marginalized voices. Featuring narrators from its most recent program with the /five initiative at The Huntington, Naked Narratives is collaborating with the Sokamba Performing Arts Company to create an exclusive evening performance in which queer, femme poets, musicians, and dancers of color will share their stories. Engaging with themes rooted in the body and the human experience, this sensory showcase will add identity and instinct to the discourse of the Montagu Collection. Celebrating the beauty of all our hard-earned lessons and paying homage to the ones that taught them to us.
