Join curatorial fellow Michelle Rich for an in-gallery conversation exploring Ancient Bodies: Archaeological Perspectives on Mesoamerican Figurines.
Ancient Bodies features a compelling narrative scene of twenty-three Maya figurines recently excavated from a 7th-century Maya royal tomb at the Classic-period city of El Perú-Waka’, Guatemala. By juxtaposing nearly 50 of LACMA’s permanent collection figurines with the El Perú-Waka’ scene, this exhibition curated by Rich—who also led the archaeological excavation—facilitates fresh interpretations of LACMA’s figurines anchored in an archaeological perspective.
Rich has been conducting archaeology in Guatemala since 2003, and is currently the LACMA Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow in Art of the Ancient America
