Dr. James Oles leads a walkthrough of «Found in Translation: Design in California and Mexico, 1915–1985,» focusing on pre-Hispanic and Spanish Colonial revivals of the early to mid-20th century. In both California and Mexico, architects, patrons, and designers relied on both history and fantasy to bring the past into the present.
Oles divides his time between the United States and Mexico. He teaches part-time in the Art Department at Wellesley College, is adjunct curator of Latin American art at the Davis Museum, and served as an advisor to Found in Translation. Among many other publications, he is the author of Art and Architecture in Mexico (Thames & Hudson, 2013).
