CELEBRATING THE LIFE NAMELLA KIM /////
sunday 20th august
Some people’s lives affect us in ways that words could never really express. Their life, their laughter, their touch, their presence hold something so close to our hearts that the absence reminds us of just how lucky we were, and are, to have had them in our time. Namella wasn’t just “some people.” Her life affected people from all walks, all types, all places. It is the truest representation of a life that lived. Her style, her taste, her sass were only a part of what made her unique, but it’s her honesty, boldness, and voice that made her the embodiment of empowerment. The fiercest firecraker in high heels and red lipstick that exploded her way into the hearts of so many. The little Korean girl that for a time, became the queen of Los Angeles’ underground. This city is so much richer for it. So are we. At times when those who we love leave us, words become so difficult to find. There is a quote from Patti Smith to her oldest friend and lover Robert Mapplethorpe that encapsulates what I believe many of us feel, when she says, “looking around at all of your things and your work and going through years of work in my mind, that of all your work, you are still your most beautiful. The most beautiful work of all.”
Please join us as we gather to celebrate the life of N Justine Kim on Sunday, August 20th.
This memorial will be in two parts — we will convene in Los Feliz at La Luz De Jesus Gallery from 7 — 10P for public eulogies, a slideshow of photos & the sharing of memories.
