Debates over California’s death penalty policies have dragged out for decades, leaving the state mired in a system that is expensive, ineffectual, and too often traumatizing for the survivors of tragedy. Discover more about current death penalty consequences and why change is warranted from Bethany Webb, whose sister was among eight murdered in the Seal Beach Salon Meritage shooting in 2011. Bethany's narrative is both highly personal and deeply informed. «The death penalty,» she argues, «is an empty promise of justice.»
Bethany Webb is a wife and mother of two, a mortgage loan officer, and a real estate agent in Orange County. She worked with Death Penalty Focus to promote passage of California's Proposition 62 (Repeal of the Death Penalty Initiative, 2016) and continues to advocate for justice, families, and the elimination of capital punishment in California.
Her opinion editorial, «My sister was killed in the Seal Beach massacre. I still oppose the death penalty,» appeared in the Los Angeles Times on June 29, 2017. Read it here: latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-webb-seal-beach-death-penalty-20170629-story.html
