Los Rumblers, a tribute to legendary rock and roll guitarist and songwriter Link Wray, is named after Wray’s 1958 hit single “Rumble”. The band is made up of four accomplished music veterans, “Burnin’” Mike Vernon, who played with Link Wray, plus Gary Myrick, Dave Provost and John Palmer.
Guitarist and producer Mike Vernon also performed with other revered musicians such as George Tomsco of The Fireballs and Nokie Edwards of The Ventures. Guitarist Gary Myrick, a singer/songwriter, created hit tunes such as “She Talks In Stereo” and “Guitar, Talk, Love & Drums”. Bassist Dave Provost, a long-time fixture of the L.A. rock scene, has played with The Dream Syndicate, Davie Allan & the Arrows, Dwight Twilley and numerous other groups. In-demand drummer extraordinaire John Palmer has performed and recorded with many artists including Wanda Jackson, Peter Tork and Ronnie Dawson.
An influential rock and roll, rockabilly and instrumental rock musician, Link Wray has been called the father of heavy metal and the progenitor of the power chord. Rolling Stone named Wray No. 45 on the “Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list. Esteemed for his fearless rock and roll guitar style, Wray was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame as well as the Native American Music Award’s Hall of Fame. He received a nomination in 2013 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Wray influenced major musicians such as Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend, Neil Young, Iggy Pop and many others.
Wray is featured in the newly released film documentary, Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked The World (2017), which will be playing at the Landmark Nuart Theatre located just down the street from Record Surplus. It opens on August 25th, the day after Los Rumblers’ performance.
