Chord Four is a «California Avant-Garde» ensemble of improvisers and award-winning composers creating original music which strikes a careful balance between interesting rhythm and harmony. Conceived in 2008, this chord-less Los Angeles based ensemble has relentlessly built a 50+ song repertoire while maturing their individual and group sound. Heavily influenced by jazz, as well as the traditional music of West Ghana, Indonesia, India and the Balkan region of Eastern Europe, their music is difficult to place into a specific genre. This, along with their familiar yet unique variable instrumentation makes for a dependably intriguing collection of sounds and timbres. The members of the ensemble are, in score order: Andrew Conrad on tenor saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, and melodica, Brandon Sherman on trumpet, flugelhorn, and melodica, Emilio Terranova on double bass, and Colin Woodford on drums, cymbals, and melodica. In 2017 Chord Four was awarded 1st place in the international Conad Jazz Contest, sponsored through the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy.
IT LO teams Utah-based avant-chamber-no wave duo It Foot It Ears with Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist Logan Hone for a 5 day rehearsal residency in Torrey, Utah and a brief SoCal tour. Instruments include saxophone, various percussion, prepared electric guitar, voices, keyboards, and lots of wood blocks.
