Aireal Alchemy is coming to LA this Fall! We'll be hosting a series of workshops at The Aerial House, stay tuned for sign up info!
Unveiling the basic alphabet of aerial acrobatics, Aireal Alchemy deciphers its secret language through categories in art, science, language, and movement. Using holistic integration of cross genre concepts, deductive reasoning to break down movements, and 10 years of in depth field research, Madamn Burnz is honored to present her working theory on aerial art and acrobatics. Seen through the Wizard's lens, Aireal Alchemy looks at aerial as an evolving magical language with the privileged gift of delivering an array of Powerful messages.
Aerial and Science
Why do or don’t movements ‘work’ in the air? What are the fundamentals of apparatus based aerial dance? How can we understand how to use our creative brain to explore traditional concepts?
A introductory section to the Aireal Alchemy theory, aerial is studied as a cross genre discipline. Looking at the relationship between anatomy, form, and movement, this workshop presents the essential scientific concepts for understanding aerial technique. By learning the basics of the aerial language, students explore acrobatic shapes through primary postures and form — based layering. Having a clear look at fundamental movements and their complementary stationary movements accessible, student walk away with independent tools to safely explore movement while in the air.

Basic Aerial reference alphabet
Translation of grounded shapes to air based shapes
Class is suitable for beginners of aerial acrobatics, students of silks, rope, and hoop. First time students welcome.
Aerial as Movement
How do individual movements get layered to create longer sequences? How can someone know what the ‘result’ of their layers will be?
Through comprehension of the basic components of aerial science, the technique starts to take the pieces of the alphabet and transform them into phrases. With the crossover similarities between postures, adding a layer to a root posture evolves the pose into a movement. By the end of this workshop, students will have a good understanding of the root, layer, and termination posture concept of Aireal Alchemy, and may begin to conceive of creating their own sequences using the tools learned in Part 1.
Workshop is available as a Part 2 to the Aerial as Science Workshop for beginners, independently as an exploration in hip hitches, and to advanced students as a drop layering workshop.
The Wonderful World of Hip HItches & Locks
Did you know there are 4 different basic ‘locking’ poses that are possible for the hip? And that these locks are translatable to other body joints, with minor adjustments?
The Hip Hitch is a major cornerstone to Aireal Alchemy theory. Many poses start, end, or layer a hip hitch to their sequence. What are these hip hitches and how can you use them? Find out in this workshop.
Skills covered: Entries to 4 hip hitches, layers added, hip hitches as termination, basic drops with hip hitches.
Prerequisites: ability to hold self in the air
Part 1: Intro to Drops
Dropping is a very unique piece of the Aireal Alchemy theory. Drops are a huge part of aerial acrobatics, and can be used in a variety of ways, to express very deep emotions. How do these drops get created? How can you know if a drop is safe?
In this introduction to the movement theory of Aireal Alchemy, learn the different categories of drops and why they do what they do. Scientific concepts are applied to movements, creating a comprehensive approach; Drops are looked at by their root pose, layer, and termination pose, examining how the drop starts, what the body does during the drop, and where it lands. All drops end in locked postures.
Prerequisites: Climbing, 3 minutes of aerial endurance, basic inversion strength
Part 2: Layered Drops
Just like static poses can be layered and created, drops can be layered as well. What are some basic layers? How do you know what you can layer on top of and what you can't?
This is an intermediate workshop for students who are comfortable with simple drops and looking to create longer sequences. Utilizing the Aireal Alchemy theory of movement, students cross reference movements and learn the similarities and patterns.
Prereqs: In air inversions, basic understanding of aerial directions, comfortable with introductory drops.
Part 3: Open Drops
Dropping to hands, outside of a lock, is very different. It requires returning to your knowledge of Aerial Science and applying the form and grip concepts, enhanced strength training, and general balls, you as an aerialist are already supporting your body weight, why not go for it and really do it.
Aerial as Art
Examining the metaphysical properties of aerial, Aireal Alchemy series presents Archetypes and Numbers as ways of adding emotion to movement. Presenting Tarot and Hebrew Gematria as paths to explore the aerial scope of musicality, students combine the movement and science of aerial acrobatics with the art, walking away with enhanced knowledge of metaphysical concepts and how they can be expressed through aerial acrobatics.
Prereqs: Ability to sequence movements and stay in the air for over 3 minutes. Any skill level is acceptable, the class is about metaphysical concepts and applying theatrics to aerial.
