We are pleased to welcome Jessica Hannah of J. Hannah Co. back to the IAO for her third naturals intensive with us.
Get the inside scoop on creating natural perfumes at this hands-on two-day intensive workshop.
Learn the art of formulating with natural essences and discover best practices to utilize when blending. We’ll discuss perfume structures, plant origins, and the historical context of materials. Students will learn by blending and re-blending formulas while increasing olfactory recognition.
Through group critique we will discuss where a blend is successfully achieving the student’s intentions and where adjustments can be made to the formula.
The class will be taught by Jessica Hannah, 2015 recipient of an Art and Olfaction Award in the Independent category for Skive, a natural perfume created for Austin-based leather company Canoe.

J.Hannah Co. fragrances are crafted in small batches and are hand bottled in Jessica Hannah’s studio in San Francisco, CA. Jessica is committed to blending bespoke perfumes and leading hands-on workshops using only the finest natural materials. A perfectionist at heart, Jessica spends hours researching and blending materials to create unique fragrances. Her practice has been greatly influenced by her studies of natural aromatic history and aromatherapy, as well as the sensory arts. She believes her greatest gift is being able to share nature’s luxurious and complex scents with others.
Jessica teaches workshops throughout the U.S. in boutiques and larger locations including The Chicago Botanic Garden, The Dallas Arboretum, and The Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles. She has also guest lectured at Columbia College Chicago, The School at the Art Institute-Chicago, and Texas State University-San Marcos.
— CANCELLATION POLICY
When we host a class or workshop, we often order the materials to be used in the class well in advance, based on how many people have signed up (and padding a bit for safety).
Although we realize that life has a funny way of getting in the way of the best laid plans, as a small non-profit we cannot afford to carry the burden of wasted materials.
With that in mind, here is our refund policy:
– Cancellation with refund request made 2 weeks or more (14 days) before the scheduled class will be honored with gusto! We’ll miss you, but will 100% refund your spot.
– Refunds requested less than 14 days before the scheduled class: We will refund you 50% of your class fee. Why? Because we’ve already ordered the materials.
– Refunds requested less than 48 hours before the class, on the day of the class or after the class has happened will not be granted.
