Please join us for FA4 Collective's exhibition titled BORDERS at Angel City Brewery in September.
In the 21st century, we’ve been inundated with borders like no generation before us; borders of all sorts, from gender binaries about our bodies, distinctions about race and class, about our ideologies and loves, to literal and (for now) hypothetical walls.
Global innovations in communication have made it easier than ever to unite us, but we have never been so far divided. The pinnacle of this division the US/Mexico border.
The proposed wall, the bad hombres, the travel ban, ICE and the ongoing drug war in Mexico converge into an ideological battleground, the casualties of which are the most marginalized and disadvantaged of us.
We are a collection of misfits. Some of us are immigrants; some refugees, with various citizenship status. Amongst other things, we are also idealists.
It has always been the job of the artist to pick the scabs on the tender wounds of our psyche. To put a frame around what has been swept under the rug, and this is no different.
We’re assembling artists from both sides of the border to discuss — as artists do, what it means to migrate, what it means to cross, to be contained, and to seek refuge in 2017.
