WHAT IS PANTO?
Lythgoe Family Panto is the exclusive producers of American Panto®. It is essentially Musical theater which incorporates audience participation and pop songs. American Pantos® are based on fairy tales that kids know and love but the humor within them is directed to the adults with topical jokes and local references. It’s a little like a Pixar movie on stage! Panto is spreading across America with 4 cities in 2017 and 6 planned for 2018.
American Panto® began in 2010 with Cinderella Christmas starring ‘The Beaver’ Jerry Mathers. Since then many more productions have been mounted including Snow White Christmas starring Arianna Grande and Neil Patrick Harris at the Pasadena Playhouse and the second version in Salt Lake City starring David Osmond and Amy Whitcomb. Aladdin and his Winter Wish starring Ben Vereen, Ashley Argota and Jordan Fisher premiered December 2013 and in 2014 Sleeping Beauty and Her Winter Knight starring Lucy Lawless, Olivia Holt, and Garrett Clayton was mounted at the Pasadena Playhouse. 2015 saw two productions in California, Peter Pan and a Pirates Christmas in Pasadena starring John O’Hurley, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chrissie Fit and at the Laguna Playhouse, Snow White starring Lindsay Pearce and Marina Sirtis. In 2016 three productions were mounted including Cinderella in Pasadena starring Morgan Fairchild, Alex Newell, and Lauren Taylor.
“Little Hands, Big World” Interactive Workshops: Made possible by grants from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, “Little Hands, Big World,” is a series of interactive workshops which take place prior to our Children’s Night concerts during our Summer Season. These workshops are FREE of charge, and designed to extend children’s experience of our concerts, and expand their cultural understanding by teaching music, songs, and dance from around the world. These interactive programs are offered by highly skilled teaching artists from the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, in a welcoming and supportive group environment that engages children and encourages parental involvement.
Covering traditions from the African diaspora, Asia, Latin America, and our own backyard, “Little Hands, Big World” will include participatory cultural dance and singing, drumming workshops, instrument building, and art activities as a fun and hands-on means by which families can further experience and appreciate the cultural music and dance presented in our summer festival.
The series invites families and people of all ages to experience a multicultural, multidisciplinary journey around the globe in celebration of the diversity of Southern California.
KidZone features child and family-focused interactive fun and games! Activities vary by day. Children can have their face painted, grab a balloon, make chalk drawings, make instruments, and color to their heart's content.
